We definitely should have a thread on this already (and don't embarrass me by telling me we already do!). How did people like the Opening Ceremony? Is anyone going to see any events? What are people looking forward to watching?
I absolutely loved it. It was a great show. I've had goosebumps many times. London and Beijing had the best Opening Ceremonies of the past 15 years imho. I'm currently re-watching it with my family cause they couldn't watch it last night. My 6 year old is watching with big kiddy eyes.
I loved the opening ceremony! It was so cute. I watched the gymnastics earlier and am about to watch the final of the swimming. I want tickets to go and I think my dad is gonna try and get some!
I've watched rowing, swimming and parts of the gymnastics today. Weirdly I have all the disciplines I want to see in the first week. Don't really know what to do with the second one, but well.
I went out last night, so watched the opening ceremony today. All in all, I think it was a really great show and that, but I can't say I massively enjoyed it. I know it was great and I'm so pleased that most people seem to like it, but I didn't get that excited about it (but that could be because I was watching it a day late and stuff). I've not seen any other opening ceremonies (although I've got Beijing's up in a tab which I'm going to watch), but I think a lot of the comments about ours have been fair. I'm going to be watching gymnastics and diving, for sure; watching the swimming at the moment and I might turn on for some of the equestrian events. Other than that, I am not usually that bothered. I'm not really into sport x)
Watching the gymnastics atm and I'm really impressed! The USA are amazing, but I'm really happy with how GB are doing! They're amazing!
I love watching Rowing and Canoeing. Swimming of course is always exciting, but i'll pretty much watch anything German, France and New Zealand participate in. We beat USA in the 4x100m freestyle relay!
Anyone been watching the men's team gymnastics final? I'm SO excited that we might get a medal; we've not even been in it since '24! I feel really sorry for Philip Boy and Sam Oldham for falling (again in Boy's case), but ahh, so good! Disappointed with the synchronised diving, earlier, especially with the judges, actually. I think it's silly they don't watch the slow-mo replay, because imo, they scored really badly for quite a few of the dives.
The judges in the diving competition don't have the replay. They don't have monitors for that. Or so our German Eurosport comment dude said yesterday. Which probably is why they judge so...strange.
^Oh, no, I know that they don't; I think they should! AND YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH we got silver! Feel SO bad for Uchimara, who not only cost Japan silver, but a medal altogether, but still, so, so happy for them that we got silver. Edit: No, no, no! They've protested! WE MIGHT NOT GET IT D:
01 :China 02: Japan 03: UK After the protest. Ah well. And now the Ukraine's protesting as well cause they were moved to rank 4.
Buhhhhhhhhhhh, they've taken our silver D:! I know bronze is still amazing, considering our gymnastic record (and even anyway, third in the world is great), but we had silver for those five minutes.
I refuse to accept the fact that German fencing lady Britta Heinmann was sent into the finale. It was a mistake by the official clock that let her score the last point after the time was stuck and didn't move. I may be German, but fuck this decision. I'm not accepting it.
^I didn't watch it but that does sound controversial. Were there appeals and stuff over it? Who lost to her (or didn't, but who's out because of it)?
The South Korean fencer A Lam Shin was kicked out due to this decision. She protest and sat on that fencing thingy to show her protest for over an hour till the judges overruled her protest and escorted her out.
Well, go her, at least! And maybe/hopefully Heinmann will know she's not really supposed to be in the final, so she'll lose (not deliberately, I mean, but any uneasy thoughts like that can really put you off your stride).
She lost in the final. So she got Silver and the South Korean fencer was so out of the whole thing after that decision in the semi final that she lost the fight for third place. So in the end she got nothing. Which makes me sad.
