    Fan Fiction Rules and Guidelines

To make this an enjoyable place for all, The Fan Fiction Critics and Mods have some set Guidelines and Rules
So here they are...please make sure you read them before posting in this section.
This will save everyone a lot of time and heartache....

    1- Run a spell check.
We know that a lot of the authors don't have English as their native language, a spell-check is necessary to keep the story readable exactly for that reason. Open your story in Word, hit F7. There is no excuse for a story with spelling errors in it.

2- Use proper punctuation and grammar. Please pay attention to your punctuation and grammar as it is a criteria for a good and readable story.

3- If you post a boysex story, please post it in the SLASH forum. That way those members that choose not to read these types of fics can make informed choices. And those who do read them can find them easily!

4- Plagarism is the devil's work. We should all know what that means, DON'T STEAL! We will notice and you will be in trouble. Any member caught plagiarising will be banned, and the story subsequently locked. If you have taken an idea from someone else’s story, please give credit to the author for inspiration - whether it be published or internet written.

5- Spam should be kept to a minimum. Spam within reason will most likely be ignored, however ongoing comments not related to stories will receive a warning, if it continues, the story will be locked without notice.

6- If you're going to criticize, please make it constructive criticism. Insulting or belittling of other people's work will not be tolerated. Please be courteous and polite.

7- When posting a story, please post it in the appropriate board/sub-board. We have a place for your General, Slash, and One-Shot fanfics.

8- When posting a story, please ensure that ALL chapters/parts/sections to the story are kept in the same thread (that is, you don't have one thread for chapter one, another for chapter two and so on). It makes them a lot easier to keep track of, it also keeps the forum tidier and easier to manage.

9- Please follow the following format for posting your MCR General fan fiction:
*Title: Place the title of your fiction first.
*Rating: U/PG/12/15/18+ (See ratings guide below)
    *Main Characters: Band Member/OFC
*Summary: A brief sketch of what your story is about.
*Genre: Add the most important genre(s) of your story.
    *Chapter Index:
    Chapter One-Page One
    Chapter Two-Page One
    Chapter Three-Page Two
    *Story Text
Make your first post of the story solely for the information as stated above. Doing this leaves enough room (in other words character space) to do a full chapter index. This is not mandatory but helpful to make sure you don’t run out of space for the index.
Stories without this format will be warned once to conform to it. If the story is not fixed within 24 hours, it will be locked

    Frequently Asked Questions: FanFiction.

Due to a number of questions arriving in our PM inboxes, the Fan Fiction Critics have agreed to post a FAQ to answer a number of questions instantly.

Here are a sample batch of questions that critics are usually asked.

    Q. What is allowed in this section of the forum?

The FanFiction sub forums are usually extremely lenient as to what is allowed in this area. Simply, any fictional written work focusing on one or more members of My Chemical Romance. Not all stories have to have every member of the band - but, as long as it features just one member - it can be regarded as a My Chemical Romance FanFiction.

    Q. Can I write and post a story?
Of course you can - this is what this area of the forum is for and we welcome you to express your writing skill. If you’re new at writing - we advise you to first check out the ‘Writer’s Guide’ thread for helpful tips and grammatical help.

    Q. Who views the stories posted?
Members and Guests (people who browse the site without an account) have access to reading all stories listed.

    Q. Can we post a story by someone else?
This is acceptable only when you have the utmost permission of the original author. (See plagiarism.)

    Q. What are the definitions of various FanFiction terms?
    • Alternate Universe: A story focusing on an alternate - perhaps in the future or where Frank, Gerard etc. are not part of My Chemical Romance - usually where the band doesn’t exist.
    • Character Death: Where a member of the band or an original characters dies during the course of the story.
    • Crossover: A story that combines various other bands, realities - for example, a story where the band are suddenly placed in a TV Show I.e. Bob suddenly appearing in an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer or Lost.
    • CYOA: Choose Your Own Adventure - a story where at the end of one chapter, you are given a series of options. Most commonly found in Goosebumps books and are rare on this site.
    • Incest: Family affairs - for example, Gerard and Mikey being ‘together’
    • Lemon: A detailed description of a sex-scene.
    • Lime: A scene which faintly holds a sexual description.
    • Slash: The term ‘Slash’ refers to a homosexual male/male or female/female romance story.
    • Songfics: A story focusing on a series of song lyrics.

    Q. What is a disclaimer?
A disclaimer is a short sentence stating that you do not know or own My Chemical Romance and that your story is fiction. An example sentence that we advise you to use is:

‘I do not own nor know any members mentioned in this story. This story is entirely fictional.’

    Q. My story has been locked - why?
If this is the case your story has most likely been locked for one of the following reasons.

    • Your story is missing a rating/disclaimer/chapter index/summary/genre
    • Your story has been accused of plagiarism and has been locked until further notice.
    • Your story has not been updated for a period longer than three months.
    • You have neglected to use good grammar/spelling.
    • Your story has excessive spamming.

    Q. What is a critic?
A critic is a member of staff who looks after the Fan Fiction area of the site. Their job entitles them to lock, ban, edit and moderate the stories that are posted on the site. They also give advice to authors regarding spelling/grammar etc.

    Q. How do you become a critic?
By being active in the Fan Fic section, following the rules and being helpful to other members.

    Q. How many stories am I allowed to post?
As many as you want. Ideally, we advise new authors to post one and, as their story progresses, they will find it easier to handle two rather than one.

If you have any remaining questions, please PM a critic who will answer your question before editing it in to this thread.

    Thank you,
    The Critics

    Fan Fiction Ratings:

    U - Suitable For Everyone

Where more serious issues are featured (eg domestic violence, racist abuse) nothing in their treatment should condone the behaviour.

    Mild bad language only.

Natural nudity, with no sexual context.

Sexual activity may be implied, but should be discreet and infrequent. Mild sex references and innuendo only.

Moderate violence, without detail, may be allowed, if justified by its setting (eg historic, comedy or fantasy).

    Imitable techniques

No glamorisation of realistic or easily accessible weapons. No detail of potentially dangerous behaviour which young children are likely to copy.

Frightening sequences should not be prolonged or intense. Fantasy settings may be a mitigating factor.

Any references to illegal drugs or drug misuse must be innocuous or carry a suitable anti-drug message.

PG - As U but with more frequent use of strong language

    12 - Suitable For people aged 12+

Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers.

The use of strong language (eg 'fuck') must be infrequent. Racist abuse is also of particular concern.

Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet.

Sexual activity may be implied. Sex references may reflect what is likely to be familiar to most adolescents but should not go beyond what is suitable for them.

Violence must not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated.

    Imitable techniques
Dangerous techniques (eg combat, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on imitable detail or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Sustained moderate threat and menace are permitted. Occasional gory moments only.

Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or instructional.

    15 - Suitable For People aged 15

No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate to 15 year olds.

There may be frequent use of strong language (eg 'fuck'). But the strongest terms (eg 'c-word') will be acceptable only where justified by the context. Continued aggressive use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.

Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.

Sexual activity may be portrayed but without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour.

Violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. Scenes of sexual violence must be discreet and brief.

    Imitable techniques
Dangerous techniques (eg combat, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not be described in huge detail. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Strong threat and menace are permitted.
Drug taking may be included but should not promote or encourage drug misuse.

    18 - Suitable for people aged 18+

Nothing is prohibited, as by 18 you are an adult and can make your own decisions regarding what you read. If a fic contains explicit sexual scenes, excessive use of explicit language, extreme violence and excessive gory scenes, excessive drug taking, etc. the fic should be rated 18.

    New rules: Genre/Summary

To make the fanfiction/slash/one-shot threads a little easier to look through, we would like all authors to add a genre and a short summary. It doesn’t take much time to write down a short summary, and it will be a timesaver for your readers. The summary doesn’t have to be endless, contain a spoiler, or the complete story. Just the main story line will do.

    Also add a genre:

I may have forgotten a few genres, but these are all I could think of. The new set-up will be:

Title: place the title of your fiction.
    Rating: U/PG/12/15/18+ (See Ratings guide)
    Main Characters: Band Member/OFC
Summary: A brief sketch of what your story is about.
Genre: Add the most important genre(s) of your story.
    Chapter Index:
    Chapter One- page one
    Chapter Two- page one
    Chapter Three- page two
    ect, you know the drill

Please add genres and summarys as fast as possible. Within 48 hours there will be locking story threats. If you find your story locked you can PM either me, Kriss, VivreChem, or Lokeriel with your genre and summary, then we will unlock it for you.

    X Nuky
