Chapter 5
I did it. I made it. Two more weeks without meds, altogether one month. Mikeys graduation was a struggle, I had to sit still for so long... But I made it.
I showed the head warden who could last. Although I did get angrier alot easier than usual but I could hide it from the guards and would take it out on my pillow so they didn't stuff pills down my throat, breaking my record.
I got up to go and find a warden before Bob woke up, but before I even got the chance to swing my legs out of bed the door swung open.
'Way?' A deep voice came, before the man in the suit walked in.
I swallowed. 'Sir.'
'You made it a whole month?' He seemed slightly shocked.
I nodded and showed him the bag. I was surprised they had let me keep them, what with the possibility of suicide and all.
'Get your bags Way. Someones coming to pick you up. Your out for a 2 month trial period. Then your back here unless you made a real effort to act normal.' With that he spun round on his heel and marched away.
I sat up, my eyes wide with shock. They were actually letting me out.
'BOB!'
He rolled over groggily. 'What Gee...?'
'THEY'RELETTINGMEOUT! ICANGOHOME! HOLYSHITIDIDN'TTHINKTHEYWOULD-'
'GERARD! SHUT UP! Talk slowly man. What is going on?' Bob was alert now, his hair still all over the place.
'I. CAN. GO. HOME.' I said, shouting.
Bobs face went from confused to shock. 'W-what?'
'I can go home Bob! I don't have to stay here anymore!'
Bob swallowed. Now he looked angry. Very angry. 'WHAT THE HELL?! WHY DO YOU GET TO GO HOME?! HOW THE FUCK IS THAT FAIR?!'
I shrank back into the wall. The only other time I had seen Bob mad was my first night here.
Flashback
'I DON'T WANT THE NEW KID! SOMEONE ELSE CAN HAVE HIM! WHY DO I HAVE TO SHARE?'
'Bob, please, the new boy just needs someone to sho him the ropes and your the perfect person for it...' I hid behind the man talking, clutching my bag. He seemed strong, I guess he could fight this Bob guy off if he flew off the handle.
I had been drugged up with some pills, I was kind of out of it. I just wanted to sleep, but this Bob wouldn't allow it.
'Aw, Fuck you, your not stuck in here all day are you? Your not in here because there is no-where else in the world that can be bothered with you.'
'Bob...' My voice sounded quieter than I expected it too.
'What do you want newbie?' He snapped, eyes blazing.
'I promise I won't annoy you... I just want to sleep.'
'Its impossible for a schizo like you to be un-annoying.'
'Is that even a word?'
'SEE THERE YOU GO!'
'WELL, YOU CAN'T BE PERFECT IF YOUR IN HERE TOO!'
'I HAVE DYSLEXIA! AT LEAST I'M NOT A FUCKING SCHIZ!'
'Your obviously more fucked up than that to be in here!'
'To be honset they don't know whats wrong with me, they decided to just leave me here to rot' He retorted, coldly.
I swallowed. 'Can I please just sleep?'
'Whatever. But you better not utter a fucking word while your here with me.'End Flashback.
'Bob, don't get mad, I-- I just--'
'THATS NOT FAIR! I WANT OUT!'
I stood up. 'Bob, I promise, one day I will get you out of here. I promise.'
He looked up at me and his anger melted. 'Oh, God, I'm sorry Gerard, I just-- I don't want to be alone. Not after having you here for so long...'
'Hey, you can get a day-pass right? Come and see me? Frankie won't mind...'
'You'd let me?'
'SURE! I wouldn't want you bored out of your mind all the time...' I grinned at him.
'Thanks Gee.'
Half an hour I was being pushed out of the door with Frank holding onto my arm.
'Cars over here Gee...'
'Frank you can let go of my arm I won't run away...'
He smiled slightly, adjusting his sunglasses so they sat better on his nose. I felt his grip loosen slightly but he didn't let go totally. 'You know how much I had to persaude Jamia to let you stay?'
'Alot?' I answered, throwing my bag into the boot of his car.
'Uh huh. She really didn't want you here...'
'Man, thanks for making me feel welcome..'
Frank chuckled. 'You got the spare bedroom. I set it all up, you just gotta put your shit in there. Oh, and you still like dogs don't you?'
I nodded. 'As far as I know I still do.'
'Cool. Me and Jamia have got a couple of dogs... a Husky called Mungo and a Labrador called Hector. You won't mind them will you?' Frank asked, kicking the car into reverse as he looked over his shoulder to see behind the car.
'No, I don't mind.' I stared straight ahead. This was the first time I had been in public for 4 years (Other than Mikeys graduation, but that didn't count as it was only 4 hours or so.). That was also 4 years that I had to remain celibate against my will... Jesus I could do with a shag right now. I needed to find a girl and fast.
We drove back home, talking about random crap. Frank told me about his new guitars, he had always had a soft spot for a sweet model. I fiddled with the radio, desperate to hear music. I had some CDS while I was locked away, But I only had about 3, and after a while they got mighty boring. Even Iron Maiden can't save you for 4 years straight.
'Gee, will you settle on one damn station?' Frank seemed slightly amused by my actions. I couldn't decide which song to stick with, the crappy pop song with the annoying bass and synths, or the R'N'B one that sounded like every other song the artist had put out. I finally settled on the pop one.
We pulled up at his house and I sat there in awe for a moment. It looked so... normal.
'Come one Gee, get inside.' Frank opened my door and dragged me out by my arm. 'Mikeys coming round to see you later, along with Alicia.'
I nodded, dragging my bag along the floor. Frank opened the front door and chucked the keys on a table to the side.
'JAMIAAAA WE'RE BACK SWEETIE COME SAY HELLO' Frank yelled, flicking through some post he had picked up.
A blonde women walked through a door, closely followed by two rather large dogs.
'Gerard, honey, how lovely to see you again!' She said, with a forced smile.
'Its ok Jamia, I know you hate me, quit with the fake hospitality.'
Her grin faded immedietly. 'Oh, thank god for that, I almost made myself sick having to be so sweet to you.'
'I missed you too.' I said, sarcastically, brushing my hair out of my eyes.
'Hmm, whatever, your room is first on the left upstairs, go drop your junk there and dinner will be done in a few so hurry the fuck up.'
'Yum, I can't wait for that.' I said as I left the room, sarcasm dripping from my voice. To be frank I was kind of looking forward to it, anything was better than the shit you got back in that other hell hole.

And that night I slept on your side of the bed, so it was ready when you got home.
