What if I didn’t have a dozen reasons for this gun? What if I only had one? I put the cold metal barrel to my head and took a deep breath. I placed my finger on the trigger. I pulled the gun away from my head. I didn’t want to blow my brains across the room that would be a mess. I put the barrel into my mouth; the taste of metal filled my mouth. I cringed, and closed my lips around the barrel.

I pushed the trigger and I heard a small click. I opened one eye; I didn’t realize I had closed my eyes. I blinked, I wasn’t dead. I pulled the gun out of my mouth. It wasn’t loaded. Brilliant. I can’t even commit suicide the right way; I can only do things half-assed anyway.

I threw the gun across the room; it hit the wall and fell to the floor with a soft thump. I stood up and went to my desk. I picked up the pretty stained glass designed lamp and hurled it across the room. It shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces. I smiled, my lips pulled tight over my teeth. I wanted to hurt him, hurt him just as much as he hurt me. I walked across the room to where the lamp lay in pieces. I picked up a bit of glass, it was light blue.

I brought it to my mouth; I ran it across my tongue. The taste of blood filled my mouth, it tasted like the gun. I spat the piece of glass into my hand; the blue was now mixed with red. I dropped the shard onto the floor. I picked up the gun. I went to my door and pushed it open, I padded down the hallway to my parents room, I dropped the gun on the dresser and sank to my knees in front of the chest of drawers.

I wrapped my hand around the handle of the third drawer; I pulled it until I could see the very back of the drawer. I put my hand inside and searched around for the tiny box. My hand closed on the tiny cardboard box. I lifted it to my eye level and pushed open the flap of the box. Bullets spilled onto my hand, each tiny and cold. I picked one and dropped the rest onto the floor they rolled away; I put the one in my hand to my lips.

“Ray,” I whispered. I would carve his name into the bullet but I didn’t have time. I loaded it into the gun. I heard the click and put the gun to my chest, my finger poised on the trigger, I pushed it down a little bit. The phone rang. I tried to block it out but it rang again. I lowered the gun and picked up the phone.

“Hello?”

“Angel, it’s Ray, I just wanted to say I’m sorry and I love you.”

“I love you too.” I whispered into the speaker. The gun fell to the floor by my feet.

I wrote this for my sister with no intention of posting it but she wanted me to, so here it goes....

Sushi

I watched as Mikey sat on the suitcase, he jumped a little as he tried to get it to close. I sat on the dresser of the hotel room, my chest moving slightly with silent laughter.

“Some help!” He looked at me. I stood up my blonde hair bouncing as I walked over to Mikey. “Hop on.” He moved to the edge of the suitcase and I sat next to him.

“Comfy,” I said sarcastically. He kisses me on the cheek and reached down to buckle the straps but they wouldn’t connect.

”Why doesn’t it all fit now? It fit before.” Mikey moaned.

“You didn’t pack it properly,” I chided. This was the last day of Mikey and my vacation; we had been away from all the hustle and bustle of our lives for a week, a very short week. I tried to bounce on the top of the suitcase but that did nothing but make my butt hurt. I stood up slowly. “Get up and I’ll repack.” Mikey shook his head, his hair flying.

“Nope, if I open it then everything will pop out.” I grabbed Mikey’s hands and pulled him up. He was on his feet, and the suitcase had popped open sending clothes in all directions.

“How did you get it all in there?” I asked, Mikey grinned.

“I don’t know.” I hugged him and gave him a quick kiss.

“Let’s do this later,” I gestured to the mess that was now all over the hotel room floor. Mikey grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the hotel room.

“Let’s take the stairs!” he exclaimed with boyish enthusiasm. He ran to the stairs and began to sprint down them. I followed closely but he beat me down. On one of the last few steps I tripped and fell, Mikey caught me right before I hit the ground.

“My hero,” I kissed him when I stood up. We walked out of the hotel hand in hand. The crowds that filled the New York streets disguised Mikey and no one asked for a picture or autograph. We stopped in front of a sushi restaurant.

“Sushi.” Mikey whispered. I opened the door and we walked inside. We were seated and handed menus. When the waiter came over Mikey spewed off names of the different sushi he wanted. I almost laughed at the waiter’s look of shock when Mikey finally finished.

“What do you like sushi or something?” I asked, Mikey looked at me with a severe look.

“If you sent me to a desert island all I would need is you and a life supply of sushi,” I grinned and blushed.

“I love you Annie,” I leaded over the table and gave him a kiss.
