Guitar.
Have lessons for a couple of years, get pretty good and you're away.

Bass has more limits to it, kind of - less strings and no chords.

I had the same problem and decided on acoustic guitar. I used to play piano and it's really hard in comparison, but it's still a lot of fun. I'm never going to be very good, my hands are way to small, but there you go. Have fun with whatever you chose!

i play both guitar and bass. i personaly think that bass is harder than guitar. but i also play my guitar a lot more than my bass..but i can play mama onbass and it kicks ass... what i think you should do is go to a local music store andtest out their instruments see which one you are more comfortable with.

Anyone who says Bass isn't as hard, I challenge you to play these.

nah you dont have to. i think most people do though, to learn the 'proper' sound of the chords, tabs etc. before they start the distortion.

Not really. But you generally have to push down harder on the strings with an acoustic, and that's good practice for your fingers. You also learn how to play more cleanly. You can play a sloppy powerchord or solo on an electric guitar and it can actually sound good (well it depends but still). I'd suggest you learn acoustic first.

I've played guitar since I was 16 but more and more lately I've been thinking of picking up a cheap bass and trying to self teach a little bit. As far as starting with an acoustic. I started with one, but it was within months that I defiantly picked up an electric guitar, only because my teacher was an old douche bag that kept telling me all electric guitars were good for was noise! I don't think it really matters what you start with. All though, Now days when I try to play an acoustic I still have a hard time, but I have small hands so the thick necks make it difficult
