Laken's Point of View

Today is October 26 and my birthday is in five days. I am planning to throw a Halloween themed birthday party because, of course, Halloween is on my birthday. I decided to call up my closest friend Sam and ask her what she thought would be a good idea for a birthday party for someone turning twenty two. When she picked up, I heard random voices in the background and I started to wonder what she was doing.

"Hey, Sam." I said through the phone with confusion in my voice.

"Hey, Laken. What are you doing?" She asked me after laughing at someone that I assumed fell because I heard a loud crash in the background.

"Just calling to ask about ideas for my party," I replied. Then, I heard something break. "Sam? What is going on over there?"

"Oh, nothing. My new boyfriend, Billie, keeps falling. He is trying to dance." She laughed into the phone.

"You have a new boyfriend? Why didn't you tell me about this?" I questioned in an almost serious voice. Sam had always told me everything.

"Oh. I was about to call you, Laken. You just beat me to it!" She screeched as, what I am guessing, Billie tickled her.

"Well, call me back when he leaves. I need a lot of help with this party. Bye." I said in between her laughs.

"Okay, bye Laken!" She said and hung up the phone.

'Well, that was awkward.' I thought to myself as I started to make a list of people to invite to the party. I decided to skip that part and just stick invites into everyone's mailbox in my town. That was not a lot of people though.

I started to walk out of my house with tons of invites for the people of my town. I stopped at what seemed to be a castle. It was the biggest house that I have ever seen in my life. I decided to go see who lived there because I have never noticed that house in my life.

As I rang the doorbell of the mansion, I heard light footsteps running down a flight of stairs. Just then, someone opened the door. I just looked at him and he just looked at me. We stood there staring at each other for a long time. He had medium length brown hair and wore a black pinstripe vest and skinny jeans.

"How may I help you?" He asked me, still staring at me in the same way I was looking at him. He was really cute and amazingly thin.

"Oh, um, would you like to come to my party on Halloween? It's more of a birthday party, though." I asked him, trying not to faint right then and there.

"Sure thing...?" He said with a smile and a look of confusion on his face.

"Oh, sorry, my name is Laken." I said after realizing that he wanted to know my name. I am so stupid.

"Nice to meet you, Laken. My name is Ryan. Ryan Ross. Here is my phone number." He said as he handed me a little card with his phone number and winked. He shut the door and just then, I fainted.
