Default SICK Boy [Frerard]

SICK Boy
Rating - 15+

Okay, so this started as a oneshot. It was even posted in my oneshot folder, but after writing the next few parts I reaslied it might work better as a 10 part fic.
10 parts being the estimate, of course, it could be less or more.
No graphic, it is sad, and Tara knows what happens xD
Its named after a Kill Hannah song, as it kinda fitted.

Disclaimer: Not true. Thank god. I don't own anyone and I make no money from this.
Summary: I think summaries ruin the story. So, read. There isn't any graphic, its just sad.

So, yeah. Lets see where this one goes, eh?

Part 1 - Page 1
Part 2 - Page 1
Part 3 - Page 2
Part 4 - Page 4
Part 5 - Page 7
Part 6 - Page 8
Part 7 - Page 11
Part 8 - Page 12

SICK Boy

It started with the little things. Gerard had problems remembering things, tiny things, like where he had placed the book he had been reading, or peoples birthdays. Him and Frank thought nothing of it, and although it was rather annoying, it wasn’t anything they paid much attention too.

Both being only 28 years old, they had other things on their mind. They both had jobs, hobbies.

Frank had become immersed in playing his guitar, a skill he had discovered at 25. Gerard had bought him his first guitar, and watched his with a smile on his face as he played random notes, getting used to the new instrument.

Gerard had a passion for writing and drawing. He didn’t think he was all that great, but Frank told him otherwise.

‘Its amazing baby, I love the colours!’ Frank gazed at the painting Gerard held up, genuinely amazed.

It was when Gerard’s memory began to get worse they both noticed something was up.

‘Frankie, do you know where I put my new jeans?’ Gerard asked, as he searched through the wardrobe.

Frank looked up from his book. ‘Gee, you only got them a couple of hours ago and you’ve already lost them?’

Gerard sighed. ‘Not lost, just misplaced.’

Frank rolled his eyes. ‘Last time I saw them, they were in the bag on the sofa downstairs.’

Gerard nodded and ran downstairs. As he reached the bottom, it hit him. What was he down here for again?

He sat on the bottom step, trying as hard as he could to remember. He hit the side of his head, desperate for it too come back. After 10 minutes of thinking, he gave up and trudged back upstairs.

‘You get them?’ Frank asked as he entered the bedroom.

Gerard looked confused. ‘Get what?’

Frank placed his book down and gazed at Gerard, bewildered. ‘Your jeans.’

‘My jeans? Frank, I’m wearing my jeans.’

Frank looked at Gerard’s legs and shook his head. ‘No, your new jeans, the ones you were looking for.’

‘Oh, I completely forgot…’ Gerard’s voice trailed off, as he stood there confused.

Franks eyebrows stitched together as he looked at his confused boyfriend. ‘Gee, you’ve been forgetting a lot of things recently.’

Gerard nodded. ‘I know, I just… I must be tired, that’s all. Yeah, I’m just tired…’

Later that night, they noticed another thing, when Gerard asked Frank a question.

‘Frankie, how long is it until the next millen-- millenii-- millenu--’
‘Millennium?’ Frank asked.

‘Yeah, that. How long?’

Frank sighed. ‘I don’t know Gee, but have you noticed how crap your memory has been lately?’

Gerard nodded. ‘Yeah, so what? it’s a little annoying but--’

‘I want you to go to the doctors, make sure it isn’t anything serious.’ Frank cut in, giving Gerard a serious look.

Gerard looked at Frank for a moment before sighing. ‘Fine, I’ll go tomorrow if it makes you happy…’

Frank smiled and moved closer to Gee. ‘Thank you baby.’ He kissed Gee’s cheek lightly and linked their hands together.

However, the doctors appointment bought them terrible news. Neither of them were expecting it, and neither wanted it. When the doctor said what they were both dreading, Gerard started shaking his head, not wanting to believe a word the doctor said.

‘Mr.Way… do you have trouble pronouncing words?’

Gee nodded. ‘Some of the time,’ He mumbled.

‘Do you forget things after a short amount of time?’

Again, Gerard nodded.

‘Are you easily confused?’

Gerard looked to Frank for this one. Frank sighed. ‘He gets confused when he forgets things, he has no idea what I’m talking about when I remind him of it.’

The doctor nodded and noted something down.

‘Mr.Way, I have my suspicions of what’s wrong with you, but…’ The doctor removed his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose. ‘But, I can’t be too sure. Its just so rare for someone of your age…’

The doctor picked Gerard’s file up and shook his head. ‘28...’ He whispered, a frown on his face.

‘What could it be?’ Frank asked, squeezing Gerard’s hand.

The doctor looked up at the two of them, contemplating his answer.

‘Alzheimers.’ He stated, pure and simple.

‘Obviously I’ll have to refer you too a hospital, just to make sure, but this has all the classic symptoms of mild Alzheimers.’

Frank sat there in a state of pure shock. ‘Wait, mild? What does that mean, can it be cured?’ He asked, desperate for answers.

‘It is particularly difficult to diagnose Alzheimer's disease because many of the symptoms are similar to other conditions. No case of Alzheimer's disease is ever the same, as different people react in different ways to the condition. However, there are commonly three stages to the condition: mild, moderate, and severe. Luckily for you, Gerard seems to only have Mild, although I can’t be too sure… Alzheimers is a branch of dementia. Unfortunately, it is incurable. It can be treated, but the person will die at some point, because of the illness.’

Gerard cleared his throat. ‘Dementia? Isn’t that for old people?’ He asked, trying to hold back tears.

The doctor took a breath and nodded slightly. ‘That’s why I have my doubts. We need to get you checked out, a full examination. It isn’t impossible for someone of your age to get Alzheimers, but it is very, very rare.’

Gerard nodded. ‘If I do have it… what does it mean?’

The doctor opened a drawer in his desk and looked for something. He pulled out a leaflet and passed it to Gerard. ‘This should clear up any questions you have. I’m going to arrange an appointment for you at the local hospital, so I’ll give you a call okay? If there’s anything extra you need to ask me, don’t hesitate to make an appointment.’

Frank nodded and stood up, pulling Gerard with him. ‘Come on sweetie, lets go home.’

Gerard nodded feebly, pocketed the leaflet, nodded a thanks to the doctor and followed Frank to the car.

When they got home, Gerard took the leaflet out and the two sat on the sofa, Frank reading it out loud to Gee.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, which describes the loss of mental abilities. For example, memory and reasoning.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive condition, meaning it will continue to get worse as it develops. Unfortunately there is no cure for the condition, although there is treatment available that can slow down the development.
Early stages of the condition may begin with minor memory problems and difficulty saying the right words. These symptoms can then lead to frustration and mood swings.
Symptoms change as the condition develops, and it may lead to confusion, personality changes and a total change in behaviour.
Mild Alzheimer's diseaseA mild form of Alzheimer's disease usually includes gradual loss of brain function, such as poor memory and confusion. These are often things that can be put down to old age or just forgetfulness. However, this alone can cause concern for people who don't often act in this way.
Some common symptoms of mild Alzheimer's disease include:
memory loss,
forgetfulness,
confusion,
mood swings, and
problems with speech.
This is because the first section of the brain to start deteriorating is often the part that controls the memory and speech functions.

When Frank had stopped reading, Gerard burst into tears.

‘Fr-Frankie, tha-that means I won’t be able to w-write anymore,’ Gerard sobbed, his head buried in his hands.

Frank took Gerard in his arms, hugging him and rocking him back and forth gently.

‘Shh, Gee-Gee, its okay… we don’t even know if you have it yet, calm down baby…’

They sat there for over 3 hours, Gerard crying quietly into Franks chest, while Frank tried to hold back tears of his own. He couldn’t bare the thought of losing his Gerard forever. But he knew there was hope, hope that there was something else wrong, something that wouldn’t cost Gerard his sanity or his life. As he sat there with Gee in his arms, Frank prayed. He had been brought up a catholic boy, and hoped God showed him and his boyfriend mercy. He prayed it was a misdiagnoses, that the Doctor was wrong, that his Gerard was safe.

Default Part 2

A couple of days later Frank got a call rather early in the morning. He groaned and rolled over, picking up the receiver and holding it too his ear.

‘Hello?’ He asked groggily.

‘Mr.Way?’ came a professional voice from the other end.

Frank sat up, rubbing one of his eyes with his free hand. ‘Er, no, I’m Frank his partner, can I help you?’ A glance at the clock next to him told him it was 10am. Okay, so maybe the call didn’t come that early.

‘Ah, yes, I’m calling from the Mill Health Centre, about a hospital appointment that was to be arranged for Mr.Way?’

Frank nodded then realised the receptionist couldn’t see him. ‘Oh, yeah, I remember. Has he got one?’

‘Yes, one for later this afternoon or tomorrow morning, whichever suits you best.’

Frank thought for a moment. ‘Err, the one today should be fine. I’d rather we found out what’s up with him soon as possible.’

‘Well, just so you know, the results won’t come straight away. You’ll have to wait a few weeks for the results to be analysed.’

‘Of course.’ Frank sighed, stretching his legs as he climbed out of bed.

‘Okay, so your appointment is at 2pm this afternoon at the Belleville General Hospital. Is that okay?’

‘Yes, that’s perfect, thank you.’

‘Goodbye.’

Frank said goodbye to the receptionist and placed the phone down. He stretched one last time before crossing over to the other side of the bed, where Gerard still lay peacefully sleeping. Frank crawled under the blankets next to Gee, wrapping his arms around the older mans waist.

‘Gee-Gee… Gee wakey wakey. You have an appointment sweetie.’ Frank kissed Gerard’s neck gently, trying to get a response.

‘Mmm-- Frankie, that tickles,’ Gerard chuckled, his eyes still closed as he tried to push Frank off.

‘No, come on up, up, up. You have an appointment. ‘ Frank tugged Gerard’s before he noticed the confused look on Gee’s face.

‘What appointment Frankie?’

Frank sat next to Gee and stroked his cheek. ‘The one to see if you have something wrong.’

Gerard chuckled, taking Franks hand in his own. ‘Silly Frank, what could I have wrong with me?’

Frank swallowed and looked at the floor. ‘Remember Gee, you might have Alzheimers. Remember going to the doctors?’

Gerard looked at Frank utterly confused. ‘No, I-- Frankie what are you talking about?’

Frank shook his head, pulling Gerard into a hug. ‘Just come with me baby, we’ll take you too the hospital, and they’ll help you.’

Gerard nodded slightly. ‘But, Frankie, they have needles at the hospital, I don’t like needles. You won’t let them use the needles on me, will you?’

Frank tried his best to suppress a chuckle. ‘I promise Gee.’

Gerard grinned. ‘Good. Now, can we eat, cause I’m starving.’

Frank laughed and nodded. ‘Sure, what do you want?’

‘PANCAKES, please Frankie, we haven’t had them in ages!’ Gerard jumped out of bed, taking Franks hand and leading him downstairs.

‘Okay, okay. Pancakes it is. But you gotta hurry and eat them, cause we gotta leave in an hour and a half.’

Gerard nodded and sat down at the kitchen table, ready to watch Frank cook.

Half an hour later, and they were both at the table, eating the pancakes Frank had prepared.

‘So, Frank, what are we doing today?’ Gerard asked when he had finished his last one.

‘Your appointment at the hospital.’

‘Appointment?’ Gerard asked, giving Frank a cynical look.

Frank sighed. Not this again. ‘Yes Gee, appointment. Go get dressed, please.’

‘What should I wear Frankie?’ Gerard asked, standing up.

‘Anything you want Gee-Gee.’

Gerard nodded and headed upstairs, followed by Frank 15 minutes later.

Frank found Gee lying on the bed, humming.

‘Gerard, I told you to get dressed! Your still in your pj’s, why aren’t you dressed?’

Gerard sat up and ran a hand through his hair. ‘I don’t know, I guess I… I forgot.’ Gee looked to the floor, and sighed.

‘Frank, this is annoying. I can do hardly anything anymore.’

Frank nodded and gave Gerard a quick hug. ‘Come on Gee, get ready. We’ll find out what’s wrong with you.’

Pulling up at the hospital, Frank decided to see if Gee remember anything.

‘Know why we’re here Gee?’ He asked, gently, placing a hand gently on Gerard’s thigh.

‘Yes. I have an appointment to test something. Something beginning with Al.’

Frank nodded and smiled slightly. ‘Come on Gee-Gee.’

They climbed out of the car and made their way towards the hospital. Not before too long, Gerard was sat in a chair in a very white room, a smiling doctor looking at him over a desk, Frank leaning on the wall next to Gee.

‘Now, Gerard. Why do you think you’re here?’ The doctor asked kindly.

Gerard scowled. ‘Don’t treat me like a 5 year old, please. I’m 28. I know I’m here for a test of some sort, and from what Frankie said, it could help me.’

The doctor nodded.

Frank watched as Gerard was asked question after question, asked to write various things down, asked to draw, show and tell. He had to do some maths, he had to write a short story involving his two favourite people, and he had to count from 100 backwards. All the while, the doctor was writing things down, smiling at Gerard sadly and thinking. At the end of all the tests, the doctor made his way over to Frank.

‘I don’t think this is going to turn out okay. He has all the symptoms of Alzheimers, but until I send off the results, I won’t know.’

Frank nodded and swallowed. So much for all that praying to God.
